As my son participated in his first huge rodeo at Velva this year, he was going for the all around title … and came SO CLOSE to getting the buckle! I’m so proud of him for being in the running, for trying, and for giving it all he had! From the rough stock (an entirely new post coming on that!) to the timed events on horseback, he gritted his teeth and competed and learned and observed and laughed and grinned and made fabulous friends through out the entire weekend. Seeing him do all of this brought tears of joy and pride to my eyes…even though I am always filled with joy and pride when it comes to my children.
And one of the most awesome parts of the entire weekend is that Critter, my 12 year old buckskin horse that so many have scoffed at, looked down their noses at, laughed at and in general simply just disrespected and in some cases were mean as hell too, mainly because he is my horse and that of my children (He’s not fond of men or a lot of other people), took care of my son and my daughter like the amazing animal he has always been. Considering it’s been years since this animal has been near a rodeo arena, let alone babysat young children in the ring, he basically closed his eyes and dozed off as kids and their horses and ponies raced by him, around him, almost into him. He carried me with my broken collar bone around as well when I needed to get somewhere quick for equipment. And he did not jar me once. So…I guess for the buckskin haters….I must say….Kiss His Buckskin Ass! Not a better horse in the world.
Here is Little Man’s Pole Bending Ride. Yes, I over shot, and I was over protective as well asking Big Sis to take him out and with her during his first on-horse rodeo, but they were great. They fill me with love and pride and joy every time I think of them, feel them in my heart. Thank you God for the Blessing you have given me that is my children.
